Converting a Dream into Reality

Informal blog post

Converting Dream to Reality

Have you ever wanted something so bad that you were willing to sacrifice almost anything in your life to achieve it. A dream where the sacrifices of time, effort and money pale in comparison to the feeling of reaching your goal. I've gone over weighing these sacrifices against my dreams over and over again, but in the end I always end up pushing myself away from my goals in an attempt to live a safe and steady life.

Today that ends.

Today I am announcing publicly that I will be on a LCS team. For a long time I have been beating around the bush with this concept and I think it's about time that I stop looking at it like it's some impossible scenario. If I want something hard enough, there is no roadblock that can stand in my way and I know that I can accomplish anything.

For months now I have been preparing myself to leave behind that dream and move on to pursuing something which is safer and more reliable for generating income. I thought about how insecure an LCS job would be and how I would actually be playing to keep my job. That's a really scary thought! The world of extreme competition is not a world filled with job security, in fact it's just the opposite. Becoming a pro league player would mean that I would also have to come to terms with the fact that I could be cut and have to swallow my embarrassment when I crawl back to my family asking for money and a place to stay.

I also thought about the time commitment I would have to put in to be able to:

1.) Play on a LCS level
2.) Find a team with other players who can also play on an LCS level.

I'm currently Plat V, so i'm quite far from the skill level needed to compete in the LCS but i'm also happily admitting that. Being able to come to terms with something like that only means that I should be able to improve that much faster. I have also prepared a 6 month plan that will hopefully get me to the point where i'm ready to compete for spots on an LCS team or maybe even on a challenger team. This plan is very reasonable and I believe with hard work, a bit of a time investment and some motivation I could be a top level player at the end of the program. So then my major issue is not that I won't be as good as the LCS players, the main issue is that I won't be recognized.

Unless I manage to break out into the community there is NO way an LCS team would look to pick me up as a player. I can be one of the highest ranked challenger players but if nobody knows who I am, it won't matter. I factored in a bit of time into my program for networking and making connections but the scariest part is that I will become the best and never be able to use it. AKA 6 months of training and hard-work wasted.

In the end, though it is a dangerous and daunting path to take, it is the path that leads to my dreams. Since I could first played games, I would always tell my family members that one day they wouldn't be able to tell me to stop playing because I would be bringing in a paycheck. Now that i can see that my dream is actually achievable, I know what I have to do.  I have weighed the pros and cons and I know that I am ready to go at it. I'm motivated and as I look down the road, I don't see anything that can stop me from reaching my goal. See you on the rift.
